In the news…and exciting news

We are extremely honored today to announce that the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has generously provided a $250,000 grant to support an innovative new project through our Institute on Social Exclusion (ISE).

The first-ever Mental Health Impact Assessment (MHIA) tool developed through ISE will assess how proposed legislation, policies and programs in non-health areas ( like transportation, employment, housing and so forth) will likely affect a vulnerable community’s collective mental health.

The MHIA analysis will then help shape recommendations and public decision on whether the policy or program under consideration should move forward.

Incidentally, today’s Chicago Tribune also features an education story for which Dr. Todman points to the MHIA as an example of how our faculty and students innovate think-tank ideas and create knowledge that impact lives.
